- Son of late Sri S. C. Mallaiah, who was a member of the Representative Assembly in the erstwhile Mysore State.
- Had his education in Maharaja's College, Mysore, Law College, Bangalore and Southern Methodist University, Dullas Taxes, George Washington University Washington, D.C., U.,S.A.
- Was elected to the Mysore Legislative Assembly in 1962.
- Was the Secretary, P. S. P. Legislature Party.
- Member, Mysore University Senate ;Bangalore University Senate.
- In 1968 was elected as member of the Lok Sabha as a P. S. P. candidate in a bye-election against undivided congress.
- After the dissolution of the Lok Sabha joined Congress (R) with a large number of followers after the split in the Congress Party with a view to consolidate Democratic Socialist forces under one leadership.
- Was elected to the Lok Sabha on behalf of the Congress and won a land-slide victory.
- Has been associated with the World University Service and Social Service Activities.
- Represented India at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in 1965 at New Zealand. At present is the Minister in Karnataka State holding the portfolio of Industries and Parliamentary Affairs.
