Social & Other Activities | 1. As a student took active part in representing several student Unions and Associations and for their advancement. 2. Was a Councillor and Mayor of Bangalore, city. 3. As Chairman of several statutory standing Committees done much work in toning up the Municipal Administration; Opened several educational institutions. 4. As a Chairman of Childern's "Toy 'T'rain " Committee, introduced the Toy train in the City and earned affection and gratitude of thousands of children. 5. Was Deputy Minister for Local Self-Government; Was responsible for the growth of several sports Associations for conducting the Asian Recreation Conference at Bangalore. 6. As a member of the Central Advisory Board of Physical Education and as VicePresident of Mysore State Sports Council done much for the development of Physical education and recreation , represented India in the year 1964 at the International Recreation Congress held at Japan and attended the Olympic Games at Tokyo. 7. Was the Chairman of Tagore Centenary celebrations and ViceChairman of Sri Kanakadasa Fourth Centenary celebrations Committee, Chairman of the Bangalore City Small Savings Advisory Committee; responsible for the inaguration of "Pada Yatra", for the first time in the country; rendered great service to poor and depressed classes. 8. Was the President of the Sweepers' Association ; All India Godanaya (Kurubara) Sangha, Member of the All India Backward classes federation ; participated in the 'Quit India' movement in the year 1942. 9. Was the President of the Mandal Congress Committee, Secretary of the M.P.C.C. and Vice-President of M.P.C.C. and President of B.C.D.C.C. responsible for the abolition of cycle tax, free supply of drinking water and many more just causes for the benefit of the people of Bangalore City. 10. Elected to the Mysore State Legislative Council from the Legislative Assembly Constituency as an official congress candidate in the bye-election held in the month of September 1970. |
