- Contested Taluk Board Election in 1959 and became a Member of the Young Farmer's Association of Mysore State and worked for several years.
- Was a Member of several Hostel Committee at Chitradurga.
- Was the founder President of the Sri Basaveswara Co-operative Farming Society in Challakere Taluk.
- Was elected to the Legislative Assembly during Fourth General Election (1967) from Haliyur Constituency and was elected as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
- Worked as General Secretary of the District Congress Committee for several years.
- Was a Member of the Mysore University Syndicate for several years.
- Joined Janata Party in the year 1977.
- Worked as President of the District Janata Party, Chitrdurga District for 3 years.
- Was nominated as Member, Legislative Council in the month of March, 1983.
- Was appointed as Minister for Planning, Institutions since 18th August, 1984 and again re-appointed as Minister for Labour in March, 1985.
- Was appointed as Minister for Education between 18th July 1986 to 26th August 1987.
- First Scheduled Caste person to become Karnataka Pradesh Janata Party President and Chairman, Legislative Council.
- Unanimously elected as Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council on 2nd September 1987.
