| Social and Other Activities | 1. Was Lecturer in Physics, in National College, Bangalore from 1946 to 1960. Professor of Physics during 1960 ; Principal, National College from 1961 to 1972; Vice Chancellor, Bangalore University from December 1972 to August, 1977 . 2. Director of number of summer schools ; Director of Social Service Camps for four years each of one month, duration; Initiated a number of Co-curricular activities . Instrumental in achieving academic excellence of the National College ; The Bangalore University registered a marked growth in academic and other developmental programmes, 3. When he was the Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University. A number of new courses and new departments were started. The University was shifted to the new campus when he was the Vice Chancellor; took Ph.D. Degree in Nuclear Physics from Ohio State University, Columbus, U.S.A. during 1957-60. 4. Was visiting Professor, Southern University, Carbondale, U.S.A. during 1967-68; was a freedom fighter; participated in Quit India Movement ; discontinued his studies for two years from 1942-44; courted imprisonment; was in Bangalore Central Jail and Yerawada Central Jail, Poona; is a recipient of "Tamrapatra" Award for his services as a freedom fighter and State Award by the Karnataka State in 1968 for services in the field of education 5. President of the National Education Society of Karnataka from 1975 ; First President of the Karnataka Rajya Vignana Parishat from 1980 ; President of the Bangalore Science Forum. Nominated to the Legislative Council in May, 1980 . |
