Sri Siddaramaiah was Born on 12th  August 1948 at Siddaramana Hundi, a remote village in Varuna Hobli of Mysore District. Sri Siddarainaiah hails from a poor farming community. Coming from Rural family, Sri Siddaramaiah is the maiden sophomore of his family who graduated from Mysore University with B. Sc., degree. Later he did his Law degree from Mysore University and pursued the Law profession for some time.
Sri Siddaramaiah as eloquent speaker in his student days was known for his oratory skills. He was influenced by socialism advocated by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. To explore more meaningful and effective avenues to achieve social justice for the downtrodden and the weaker sections of society, he bade adieu to his pursuit and entered political field.
Contesting on Bharatia Lok Dal Party, he entered the 7th Karnataka Legislative Assembly as its Member during 1983 from Chamundeshwari Assembly Constituency in Mysore District. Later, he joined the ruling Janata Party. He is the First President of Kannada Watchdog Committee (Kannada Kavalu Samiti) set up to supervise the implementation of Kannada as Official Language. He strived for the enrichment of Kannada language and culture of the State. Later, he became Minister of State for Sericulture and was instrumental in the alround development of Sericulture Department and Silk Industry in the State.
During the mid-term poll in 1985, Sri Siddaramaiah got re-elected from the same Constituency for the 8th Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He became Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, which he served with distinction. His love and affection for the rural people has been manifested in the programmes and policies he implemented during his tenure as the Minister for Transport and served the Ministry with unmistakable zeal.

Sri Siddaramaiah is a mass leader. He is popular among all sections of the society in general and a symbol of hope to the backward classes people in particular. As Secretary General of Janata Dal, he organized ranks and files of the Party touring through the length and breadth of the State.

He was elected again in the 1994 general elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the same constituency. He became Deputy Chief Minister having the portfolio of Finance & Excise, to which he responded very quickly by rising to the occasion. He filled the coffers of the State exchequer: repaid the debts of previous Government and the State never again went for an overdraft during his tenure. It was an amazing feat by any standards. He pooled effectively the resources. The credit rating company, in its report has remarked Karnataka as a State with sound financial position in the country. He was elected as Janata Dal Party President in 1999 to 2004.
Sri Siddaramaiah a pioneering Politician who has got all leadership qualities & capabilities with a vision for real progress and development of Karnataka as a model Stata Again, he was triumphant in August 2004 Assembly Elections and was adorned as Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka with Finance & Excise portfolios, who strived for better economic growth of the State and improved the revenue collection and Excise through plugging the leakages and loopholes in the system. His Budget is appreciated by all classes of people of the State as well as eminent Economists, financial experts and political thinkers.

After he organised three “AHINDA” Rallies/Conferences, he quit JD(S) in 2006, and started a new Party called “A.B.P.J D.” This party has got its own Organization and identity and proved its mettle in the Zilla Panchayat Elections. On an offer by the Congress High Command he joined Congress Party with his huge followers in 2006 and again started a new chapter and a new Political Venture. After joining Congress Party, as a principled politician, he resigned his Assembly seat, which he had won continuously from Chamundeshwari Assembly Constituency. After resigning the Assembly seat, again he contested the bye- election from the same Chamundeshwari Assembly Constituency on Congress ticket and won the said election with full support, love and affection of the voters of Chamundeshwari Constituency.

He was appointed as KPCC Publicity Committee Chairman for General Elections-2008 and strived hard to garner maximum votes in favour of Congress party. Again he was elected to the rechristened “VARUNA” constituency during 2008.
Congress High Command was chosen him as Leader of Congress Legislature Party and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and discharging his task very effectively inside and outside the Assembly commensurate to the pulse and pains of the general public till date.
Re-elected to 14th Legislative Assembly from "Varuna" Constituency and elected as Congress Legislative Party Leader and took oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka on 13th May, 2013.
